New Colchis: People and Culture

Festivals: The New Colchis Year

The Wheel of Life is celebrated by a series of festivals spread equally around the year. The year starts with Yule, which celebrates new birth; and end with Samhain, which celebrates death.

The Spirit Time

The one-eighth of the year between Samhain and Yule represents the spirit state, which souls inhabit between death and subsequent re-birth. Spirits everywhere are especially revered at this time. The evil powers of sorcerers and non-believers are also believed to be at their peak. Consequently, the Spirit Time is marked by almost continual festivities, designed to keep the evil at bay. Everywhere people sing, dance and ring bells.

Visitors wishing to experience New Colchis’ unique atmosphere often visit at this time. Although they still believe that the outsiders are evil, most Colchians are better disposed toward foreigners during the Spirit Time. Evil powers are dispersed by the festivities.
